We saw this idea in my modern winter flowers and branches story here a few weeks ago, so I thought I’d give it a whirl at home. My local market was selling these pure white hydrangeas for $5.99 a bunch. I already have two glass fishbowls which have been used to house everything from coral, to fruit, to Christmas baubles, and actual fish.
I filled each bowl with only 2 inches of water and the flower food that came with the hydrangeas. Cut off most of each stem, leaving only a couple of leaves and 2-3 inches of stem so they can ‘stand’ in the water. I like a bit of greenery to break up the whiteness of the flowers, so I tucked a left-over green leaf at 3 points around the inside of each bowl.
I love these flower bowls as dining table center-pieces but they would look great on a coffee table or even a book shelf.
