private game reserve – dining & relaxing

April 9, 2014

lounge areaI’m so excited to show you where we stayed on our South African safari experience. This was a splurge for us, but we thought of it as a once in a life time experience and it exceeded every expectation.

braaiOn our first night after an intriguing drive around the bushveld spotting animals, we returned for a South African braai under the stars and just a little bit of rain. The braai or barbeque is a big part of the local culture and a full range of meats were on offer: lamb, beef, chicken, impala, ostrich, and springbok.

outdoor eating areaThe camp is beautifully appointed in a modern rustic style. Most of our meals were served in an open air dining room complete with a tree growing up through the floor. There was a communal pool, a lounge area suspended above a rushing river (complete with hippo-proof fence) and an office space, but the setting and the gorgeous styling made me want to think about anything but work!
