Black top with all the bells and ruffles

Ruffles ands frills can be a tricky look to pull off when you're over a certain age! They are for me, anyway, but they are a big trend for fall and winter. That's why I scooped up this cute ribbed top by Who What Wear. It looks like a sweater but it's much lighter, perfect for a SoCal winter. The sleeves are fun, without being too dressed up or over-the-top. It looks good with jeans or a skirt. This is…

Hurricane Irma

I'm thinking of everyone in Florida and Georgia affected by the hurricane. After seeing so many heartbreaking shots of the devastation, I thought it was a good time to post some of the most beautiful photographs of each state, so we can remember what they were and what they will be again.       homeaway.com, express.co.uk, mrandmrsadventure.com, twin eagles.com, simnet.org, tybeeislandrentals.com, greatruns.com, vbelleblog.com, littlestsimonsisland.com, tripadvisor.com, blaine harrington.photoshelter.com

Lift your confidence game by doing something for someone else

It's hard to feel confident all of the time. There are now scientific studies that show helping others can actually increase your own sense of confidence and reduce feelings of isolation. It can make you feel more empowered, optimistic, and positive, and remind you just how fortunate you are. 10 Facts That Prove Helping Others Is A Key To Achieving Happiness When Hurricane Harvey slammed into the gulf coast of Texas two weeks ago today, we all watched in horror…

Where to find your fall wardrobe on sale!

The sales are on today and there are plenty of cute finds for Fall. The heatwave in L.A. has broken just in time to get in the mood for darker colors and longer sleeves. Some of these pieces make good layering pieces teamed with jeans and sweaters. Add low heeled booties, a cashmere cardigan, or a jacket to the dresses shown here and you'll be ready for the Autumn. I've tried to stick to things you can buy online today…

DIY Marbled Cards

I tried marbelizing paper once. It was a delicate, messy, drippy experience. This is not that. It's quick and satisfying, okay it's a bit messy, but it's so much easier. The step by step instructions are here. The two main ingredients, apart from the cards, are: old school foamy shaving cream and food coloring. You can blend multiple colors or keep it simple. I used the red because it ends up looking like roses. It's kind of a magical process.…

Blue stripes and bell sleeves

I've never met a blue stripe I didn't like! Add fine man-shirt style stripes to these dramatic bell sleeves and it's a winner for me. Late summer, early fall is when I tend to bring out pretty shirts and blouses with a pair of beaten up jeans and some fun shoes. Now that school's started, I'm getting a bit of structure back into my day. I don't mind getting up early, I've been trying to stick to a morning ritual…

Baked Fairy Tale Eggplant Fries

I only heard about Fairy Tale Eggplant for the first time three weeks ago, so when these pretty little veggies turned up in my Blue Apron order (I've been cooking two meals a week from this home delivery service — it's like taking a cooking class and the results are delicious), I was excited to turn them into something good to eat. Cut each eggplant into 1/4 inch wedges length-ways and dip into a bowl containing two beaten eggs, let the excess egg drip…

Favorite Places – Staplehouse, Atlanta

Bon Appetit Magazine Atlanta is our new second home. It’s Hollywood’s new second home too, well one of them. It’s up there with Los Angeles, New York and Vancouver as the biggest hubs of TV production in North America. My husband, Alan, has begun work on the CW’s Dynasty reboot and to celebrate, we somehow managed to get a Saturday night table on the patio at Staplehouse, voted by Bon Appetit magazine as the hottest new restaurant in the USA…

Guilt-free gorgeous summer dresses

We already know that dresses, especially in summer, are the answer to a pulled-together look. They are also cool to wear and versatile — dress them down with a denim jacket and flat sandals, or up with heels, a clutch, and a statement necklace or earrings (not both!). When I popped in to my local T.J.Maxx last week to see what they had in stock, I came across a treasure trove of goodies which, for once, looked as good on me…

Hidden Urban Orchard

My husband just had a big birthday. He is impossible to buy gifts for, so I took a different approach this year. We both miss our fruit trees and veggie gardens from the houses we've lived in in the past. We inherited mature palm and eucalyptus trees, and hedges at our current house, which is great, but there is very little space or even soil available for any more trees or even herbs to be planted. The solution was to…
